The Ronald McDonald Moth!

While on a field trip to Ecuador in 2009, I was fortunate enough to see this incredible moth!  It seems to me to look just like Ronald McDonald...  the red markings above and beside the black "eyes" are uncanny.  I wonder if anyone could tell me what species this is?  I found it in the Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve.

The side view is also incredible...  The yellow, black, red and white colouration is quite exquisite.

Awesome trip and how I miss Ecuador! Still think McDonalds should adopt this species as a conservation campaign!

  2. Siiiiick! Nice one Chris, I had just found that this instant after a kind person on twitter gave me the genus. Best moth ever, I still think it should be renamed.

I wish I could go back to Ecuador... what a trip mate! Maybe SE Asia soon? You'll probably get yourself there again anyway the way you're going :D
